new RAMPS-FD variant (no replies)

Hello,

I made a variant of the RAMPS-FD and figured I would share it here

[github.com] - kicad files for schematic, board, etc as well as renders, gerbers, and BOM (kicad libraries are on my github as well if you need them)

I based it on bobc's most recent revision (I believe that is v2.a?) with the safety changes, eeprom, etc.

This is really aimed at my use scenario but I'm sure someone out there can make use of it. It can be manufactured fairly cheap (I was able to get the board made for 40 shipped and the BOM cost me just under 100 shipped; this could be much less if you had parts on hand or a board to cannibalize). It's currently untested but I should get the initial PCB early next week.

Changes I made:
completely revised board layout - this was a necessity given the changes made and not a commentary on the original design! I would love feedback or any improvements

put +5v on the board via a murata dc-dc converter - pin compatible with 7805 for those who would rather use such a thing but the murata is far more efficient. retained the jumper for 5v from due or another source so it can be omitted as well

aux3 and aux 4 are removed and LCD daughter board is directly integrated - as I said this is for my use scenario but it should be fairly simple to return to aux3/4 (remove u10, rp5, and reroute connections)

stepper drivers are integrated for better heat dissipation. based off the silentstepstick design and utilizing tmc2130 (tmc2100 compatible as well) on all 6 steppers. could potentially utilize cheaper stepper drivers but as far as I can tell unless you're buying like drivers in huge numbers the price difference is a few dollars. On this - added a second header for the z axis for machines that use 2 z steppers in parallel. Also removed aux2 to utilize a digi-pot for the steppers. This is the main reason for the major changes to the board layout.

finally almost all parts have been transitioned to SMD alternatives- to my best recollection the fuse holders, pin headers, and power in/out are the only through hole components. Power mosfets are irfr8314pbf - very similar profile and again can use board for better heat dispersion.

added headers for 12v and 5v out for accessories. added jumpers to enable - not on the prototype I have coming but I added it on the schematic and pcb

Original aim was home manufacture and I guess that is still theoretically possible but it's probably not worth attempting; around 420 or so 0.4mm vias because PCB layout is not my biggest strength. Plus plated vias at home is a pain IMO. Still can be manufactured fairly cheap - I used bayareacircuits student special (30+shipping, min order 1) and OSHpark will make it for about 55/board with a min order of 3.

changes that I intend to make with another revision/am working on:
better/more informative silk screen - I was a bit careless with this, some of it is good, some is vague, some is missing. working on it
potentially adding a servo noise filter - I had a lot of issues with RAMPS 1.4 and servo noise - want to test it first on this revision to see if it's necessary.
potentially modifying heat dispersion if it is insufficient; theoretically based on my research it SHOULD be okay. Lower mask is exposed under TMC chips for possibility of heatsinks on copper/vias for cooling; may need to add similar arrangement for high power mosfets?

I'll certainly report back once the prototype is in. I have the BOM on hand so I should be able to assemble it as soon as time allows. Feel free to use/remix whatever and I would certainly love any feedback, critiques, or suggestions
