The past two prints I've tried to do have both failed less than an hour into them. Both prints were going to be 20+ hours which is the longest I've done so far (my current longest is 19h). Fortunately I was watching the print when it happened both times.
The first print failed around 50 minutes in on the 10th layer or so, the second failed around 30 minutes in on the 2nd layer. Everything will be going just fine until suddenly everything stops moving and the LCD display shows the "boot screen" (it just says Marlin and the version #). After the boot screen the heaters will all be disabled and it will act as if it hadn't been printing anything at all (the hot end and bed temperatures will be updating as they cool down). It will also not be able to be connected to by Repetier Server anymore until I completely power-cycle the unit or flash the firmware (the latter has a 100% success rate).
My RAMPS is connected via USB to a laptop running Repetier Server. I know it isn't an issue with the power cables as I've seen that happen before and the hot end fan would turn off if that were the case. None of my fans (or anything else aside from the heaters) turn off, so it seems to be a completely software-based reboot.
I can only think of a few possible causes for this:
1. Repetier Server sends a reboot command or something? I'm not even sure if it can do that... Also, what would cause it to suddenly start doing this now?
2. The RAMPS board is overheating? I have my printer inside an enclosure and unfortunately that currently includes the board and the PSU. The board *does* have a fan on it though. Also this was not an issue with the 19 hour print I did last week, so why would it be overheating less than an hour into a print?
3. The reset button on the RAMPS board is somehow getting triggered? I don't know how it wouldn't happen within the first couple minutes, but this is still a possibility I guess. This triggers a software reset, right?
Personally I'm thinking it might be #3 somehow, but I'm currently at work and can't verify it. Plus I'd really like to know if anyone has any other ideas of what it might be.
