5V regulator on Arduino burned (2 replies)

Hi guys,

yesterday night i finished the cabling on my 3d printer. I gave power to ramps+arduino and everything was fine. Then i decided to connect the endstop one by one: well i connect immediately the first connector upsidedown and the 5V on the arduino melt down.
I checked on the internet, and i tried a quick fix, replacing the smd regulator with a LM7805 (I found a topic somewhere with the same problem - wrong connection of endstops)

If I use USB cable everything seems fine (ok, in this case the regulator should not be used if I'm right). But if I connect the 12V to the ramps, the 7805 begin to get hot VERY fast and I disconnected everything when I saw some smoke coming from it.

Is there anything else that I can check or fix or Arduino board is completely damaged? Is it possible that maybe also ramps is damaged?

Thank you for help in advance

BerryTheBurner

PS. sorry for my bad english
