Plugging arduino USB in shuts laptop off. (no replies)

Hi,

I having some problems with ramps 1.4. When I plug it in while arduino is plugged in to my laptop, it shuts down my computer.
I had the arduino plugged into a USB hub. It fried my wireless adapter that was connected to the hub.
I think I caused the problem when I pulled out a stepper motor driver while the USB was connected. The ramps 1.4 psu was not connected.

I've removed the ramps 1.4 board from the arduino and it seems like the arduino is fried as well. It's giving me an error when I try to upload.

This is the error:
avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_getsync(): timeout communicating with programmer

Is it possible that I fried my ramps 1.4 board as well?

How should I troubleshoot this?
