RAMPS 1.4 Add SD CARD ADAPTER AUX2 pins (1 reply)

RAMPS 1.4 stepper driver failure? (no replies)

Hi All, I'm new here, my name is mike and about 6 months ago I bought an Anet A6.

Because this was not the quality printer I wanted, I made some pretty big modifications:

- Added aluminum frame based on the Anet AM8 (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2263216)
- Added Bowden setup with original E3D V6

Since the mainboard of Anet is also pretty crappy, I wanted to change this to RAMPS 1.4 (especially because you can change the current of the stepper drivers)

So yesterday i tried connecting everything to the ramps board to test 1 driver (DRV8825).

What happens now is i power the RAMPS board and connect to it through serial connection at 250000 BAUD.

After this i send "G1 X30 F3000" and i hear the stepper energizing (very soft humming) and it looks like it's trying to move.

Then after about 3 seconds the stepper is not energized anymore and the led on the RAMPS board (close to mosfets) starts blinking really rapidly.

The only way to reset the board is to totally cut the power (Also USB to RAMPS) and restart the system, it also doesn't respond to serial when it is in this "panic" state. (Also the reset button on the RAMPS doesn't do anything) the LED keeps blinking.

I couldn't find people with similar problems, but it might be that you have an idea what could be the problem?

I'm running on 1/32 microstepping (All three jumpers connected). and the Vref is set to 0.7 volts.

Thanks :)

How to wire galvos (ILDA) up with Ramps 1.4? (3 replies)

Hi there,

I got a nice scanner head (not the china 70 Euro ones) with a f 430 Theta lens. Using an Arduino Mega & an additional bipolar circuit with a 12 bit DAC and 2 opamps I am able to paint nice and clear pictures.
Now I want to marry the galvos with RAMPs but I don't have any clue how to wire it up. What I basically need is to get the -5/GND/+5 signal (for Y and X axis) from the RAMPS board to control the galvos.

Found a lot of helpful information in the board about using RAMPS with galvos but not that specific information. In some therads there was said that the signal was taken from the Arduino via SPI (what my setup does too). But once the RAMPS board is connected to the Arduino all connections are blocked by the shield. Any documentation I missed?
EDIT: I noticed the SPI port on the RAMPS board but it is being used by the adapter for the display.

I am working on a SLA Printer with a build volume of 300x300x1000 mm

ATX PSU shuts off while temperature is stable (3 replies)

Hello,

I am currently using a RAMPS 1.4 (with Marlin 1.1.8) with an ATX PSU. The board is unmodified (12V input). While the extruder and the heatbed heat up (constant voltage on both outputs) everything works find. Once the final temperature is reached, the heating cartridge is quickly turned off and on again to keep the temperature stable (couple of Hz). The 12V output of the PSU seems to be stable during the whole process. Then after a random (but not to long) time the PSU shuts off. I already tried using a balancing load on the 5V rail. The fast switching of the heating cartridge seems to be the problem. Is there any way to lower the switching frequency or any other way to solve my problem? I already tried another PSU and it works flawlessly (but I need it for my PC). Both 12V rails of the failing PSU supply 18A so this should not be the problem.

First post and and already asking for help!

I just finished installing a Panucatt Re-Arm into my Ender 3. I am using Marlin and everything is working except for the LCD.

Does anyone know how I should connect the 2? I can’t find a pinout for the display.

I have the special Panucatt cable and the smart adapter.

Thanks!

Cheap Chinese TB6600 with RAMPS (no replies)

Hey all,

so I've bought 4 cheap Chinese TB6600 stepper drivers.

I have included 2 pictures. will add 1 picture more, from the chip on the downside of the PCB, soon.

I thought they would be useful for the two ACME threaded stepper motors used on the Z-axis.
However, they appeared quite a challenge.
No datasheet to be found on this type.
However, the online floating datasheet of the TB6600 did give me some ideas.

While ENA- and PUL- are grounded. the Dir - and Dir+ (+5v) needs to be controlled.
When using the standard configuration; Dir- to ground and Dir+ to signal, it turn clockwise. (Signal being LOW)
But to turn counterclockwise, the configuration needs to be; Dir- to signal and Dir+ to ground.

The operating frequency is 20Khz, so per pulse it needs to be 50 microseconds.

I have some issues with Marlin, to add this to the firmware.
So, please help me with this.
I was thinking on either using the sleep or reset connection of the stepper driver connections for either Dir- or Dir+

kind regards,
Lorcan

Hello everyone,

I´ve tried to connect my bltouch but i had the connector wired wrong so i created a short on the AUX-1 port.
Now the lcd doesnt work anymore but the fans still work. The display only works when i plug in the usb cable to my computer.
How can i fix this problem or what do i have to replace?

Hot end thermistor only reads when RAMPs 1.4 is powered off (1 reply)

My DiVinci 1.0 running RAMPs 1.4 started to behave weird lately. If the printer is off (Ramps not getting 12v) but the Mega is being powered via USB (5v only), the thermistor reads perfectly fine. But when the printer is powered on, it instantly stops reading.

It's a generic 100k Thermistor with option 5 in Marlin.

Put on another one, same reading. Even when it's dangling outside the hotend, no shorts.
I've also swapped it to T2/pin 15 (default is T0/13) on Ramps/Marlin, same thing.

Was working fine for the past 3 years till today. I did had a plug on the thermistor wires and experience loose connection before, could it somehow fried the analogue reading on Ramps? Are both pin 13 and 15 sharing hardware? Bed thermistor (T1/pin 14) is working perfectly fine by the way.

Will I have to replace the Arduino or Ramps?

Anyone experience this before?

Hi all

I got a strange one for you all. I'm using this board: [www.tindie.com]
mega board is from: [store.arduino.cc]

I have tried this to fix the issue:

  • PID tune
  • New wires for thermistor all the way from Ramps to Thermistor
  • New thermistor cartridge from [e3d-online.com]
  • New heater cartridge also from [e3d-online.com]
  • did i mention that i did a PID tune?
  • rechecked that all wires in screw therminal are secured in place and no wires are sticking out.
  • rechecked that all screws in screw terminals are tight
  • tried to switch arround the thermistor to plug with no noise on

a temp graph from octoprint is attached

since the noise seems to stay with the same thermistor could it be that? i mean i just got a brand new one i would not expect it.

could it be the capacitors? a bad SMD solder job? could it even be the FET that makes the noise ?

what i will try tomorrow is temporarily using a no name 100K thermistor and connect it to same wires so the only difference is the thermistor. Only need to crimp on a plug

Avoid Bed pre-heat crashing MKS Gen L v1.0 board ? (1 reply)

HI,

My flsun i3 plus works well but has an annoying habit of randomly rebooting as the bed heats up before printing starts.

What would you do?

I am thinking this might be momentary power shortage to the arduino mega. So if I added a biggish - say 1000uF capacitor across GND and 5V somewhere (e.g. near USB connector) would that be likely to work?

The MKS Gen L v1.0 board seems to be RAMPS 1.4 and arduino mega combined on one board.

I have a spare mosfet board - would running the hotbed using this on the same power supply help? If separate power needed I could use an old PC power supply - would you use this as the main power or the hotbed power.I assume the hotbed uses the most power.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

RAMPS PLUS 2 and E1 socket problem (K200 Delta, but related to the PCB , not printer) (1 reply)

Hi

Total 3D printing newbie here, apoloies in advance if my terminology is wrong.

I have a dual head K200 delta printer with a heated bed which I put together 8 months ago, but gave up due to frustration of the following error in Repetier:

temp sensor defect marked defect
Error:Printer set into dry run mode until restart!

I've tried again today, and all 3 thermistors (and the spare) work fine, but socket E1 on the BT7200 V1.8.26 RAMPS PLUS 2 is giving me -20oC readings no matter which thermistor I put in.

Even though I’ve tried to tell it there’s only 1 extruder (in Printer Settings), the display right at the bottom of Repetier still thinks there’s 2.

I've emailed the seller and the company I bought it *through*, to see if they can help.

In the meantime - is there any way to change things so that I can use the heated bed socket for the other extruder instead and just try to make due without the heatbed for now?

Hope you can help.

Removing d1, checking before I do something (2 replies)

Hello,

I would like to verify something before I modify our reprap board.

I have a pre-assembled reprap 1.4 (with power source) and an arduino mega (with USB connected constantly). Is it required to remove the D1 diode, as there are now 2 power sources for the arduino? And if yes, can I disable it without cutting out the diode?

Cannot connect USB and PSU together (no replies)

Hello,

I have an Arduino mega board with a reprap 1.4. The reprap is powered by a Lascar Electronics PSU 130, 12V. The Arduino is connected with USB. When I upload some software to the Arduino, disconnect USB and power on the PSU, all works as expected (the steppers move, and the PSU reports 12V). When I leave the USB connected, the steppers just make some noise, and the PSU reports 6V. Our setup requires that the USB stays connected for data transmission.

Currently computer and PSU are connected to the same power socket. Is there anything I do wrong here, or something I can test or check?

Edit: I also got the advice to cut the 5V cable of a USB cable. Can that work?

Thanks in advance

hey everyone,
I got some wired Issues like.. for 5month now and i dont find it.
setup: Arduino Mega / modified Ramps Marlin 1.8 // 2.0-dev
I can print.. 5-20miuts than i get com-errors and the serial comunication brakes.
I tried Octoprint(not Octopi) and Pronterface same problem so no host problem
I tried Marlin 1.8 1.8 with advanced OK and Marlin 2.0-dev so maybe no firmware Problem
I tried a diffrent Arduino board.
I tried 3diferrent USB cables, and finaly even wrapped Aluminium foil around them. no change
i do run only 112500 baudrate...

I dont have a clue on how to proceed.

** any hints ar wellcome but dont tell me to switch the powersuply of my pi ;-)

Installed ATS PSU on MKS Gen 1.4, psu fan starts and stops (no replies)

So I have a corsair CX600 and I decided to install this on my 3d printer.

I am using a MKS GEN 1.4 with latest Marlin.

In marlin I set POWER_SUPPLY = 1

This enables the PS_ON_PIN on pin 4.

following various tutorials, I wired the green ATX wire to pin 4 using an adapter I made. Turned the PSU on and in OCTOPRINT I sent the M80 command. The fan on the PSU starts and then stops and it repeats this forever.
So I then disconnected my adapter and shorted out the green wire to black. Turned the PSU on and everything works fine

Any ideas?

Ramps 1.4 Arduino Mega fried HELP ME FIND WHY (Is not voltage regulator ) (1 reply)

So I was calibrating the stepper drivers on my Ramps 1.4 board when I touched the stepper driver with my screwdriver by mistake, That melted my Stepper motor connector and fried the voyage regulator (I tested it, making ),making the LCD contrast weird and the SD reader not working. So I disconnected the D1 diode and I connected 5V from my power supply to the VCC pin on Ramps in order to avoid using the bad voltage regulator , and It worked perfect again, the SD, the LCD and USB connection with Cura. So I replaced the melted connector on my stepper motor and put a new stepper driver. But when I turned the printer on, the LCD showed something weird, there was a loud buzzing sound and something smelling burnt, So I disconnect the stepper motor and driver, Turned it on again and nothing showed on the display. I separated the Arduino to test it , and It doesn't turn on by USB. I could get a new one very cheap but I dont know if my Ramps is bad and will damage it again. Thank you
