unknown short in ramps 1.4 stepper pins (no replies)

On my ramps 1.4, the connectors that go to the motor in driver position E2 are shorted to each other (top left most driver position, male header pins labeled 2b 2a 1a 1b, shorted to each other and not to ground or some other component). My fix was to re solder the corresponding pins on the actual stepper driver, so that they are sticking up and not connected to the actual ramps board. My question is if anyone has an idea of what is causing the issue, are the traces to close on the board or maybe a diode that is faulty? I also have already tried to identify those as the issue, but staring at the trace layout is not helping me find anything. ( the pins in question are circled in green on the attachment)
