Hotend and Heatbed (3 replies)

Hi,
Complete cherry to reprap building.
Through the topics on this forum and help from the wiki I have built a reprap......almost.
Arduino 1.0.5-r2
Latest version of Marlin
Ramps 1.4 with full graphic smart controller
x, y, z all calibrated, finds home easily, after much cursing endstops work perfectly

Here is my problem
I turn on the hotend for the first time and my temp reads - room temp yet the hotend is heating up, but the thermistor only reads about 20C
The heatbed on the other hand takes off and max's out yet the heat bed is cold to the touch.

Anyone have any clue as to where I messed up or what could be causing these issues?
